MATTHEW E. SHAFFER, MBA, CFP®

As our Chief Investment Officer, Matt oversees the development and implementation of all financial strategies for each of the firm's individual and business clients. In his role as CEO, Matt is responsible for the creation and execution of our overall business strategy. He is committed to ensuring that the proper resources are allocated to the people, research, and technology that allow us to provide the highest levels of advice and service to our clients.
From 1996 to 2001, Matt served as an Associate Vice President at Morgan Stanley in Columbus, Ohio. He then joined Smith Barney, holding the positions of Vice President of Wealth Management and Senior Investment Management Specialist. In May 2009, Matt and his wife, Tricia, founded Shaffer Capital.
Matt holds the respected Certified Financial Planner™ certification, which reflects his mastery of a broad range of financial planning topics. He holds the Series 65 Investment Adviser Representative license as well as a Life and Health insurance license.
In 1996 Matt earned a Bachelor of Science in Business degree, with a major in Finance and a minor in Economics, from Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio. In 2005, he graduated as class valedictorian from the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University with a Master of Business Administration degree. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association and the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
Matt is a native of Galena, Ohio, and continues to live in his hometown with his wife, Tricia, and their four children. He is a member of St. Paul Parish and The Columbus Metropolitan Club. His wide-ranging interests include watching and coaching soccer, listening to music, playing golf and fly-fishing.
PATRICIA L. SHAFFER
Co-Founder & Chief Marketing Officer
Tricia heads our marketing efforts, a broad set of responsibilities that ranges from researching client needs to coordinating our educational and social events for clients. Those events include lectures, informal gatherings, sports outings and other activities.
Tricia’s professional experience includes serving as the Director of Research at Business Intelligence Associates in Columbus, Ohio. Her planning and organizational skills, strong work ethic and attention to detail contribute to the smooth overall operation of the firm and its responsive service to clients.
With her husband, Matt, Tricia founded Shaffer Capital in May of 2009.
Like Matt, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio, in 1996.
Tricia lives with Matt and their four children in Galena, Ohio. She is a member of St. Paul Parish and The Columbus Metropolitan Club. In her free time, Tricia enjoys reading, cooking, fitness and attending her children’s sports activities.
